Sport is a valued
part of our school program. It contributes to the development of the
whole child through providing opportunities to gain confidence and to
develop a variety of skills for participation in lifelong recreation. In
2006 a directive was sent out by the government stating that all
students should be participating in at least 2 hours of physical
activity per week. We at Balgowlah North Public School are very proud to
be meeting this standard each and every week.
Kindergarten –
Year 2 Sport
The children
participate in sport activities designed to encourage and develop
hand-eye coordination, flexibility and dexterity. Kindergarten and Year
1 participate in weekly Gross Motor activities with parent help. Year 2
have a set Physical Education time each week with their class teacher.
Activities during these times include: running, throwing, catching and
kicking.
All K-2 children
participate in Gymnastics with trained specialists for one term and a
Ball Skills Program in Term 4. Students are required to wear their
sports uniforms for Physical Education lessons.
Our program is
essential to the development of a positive self image and confident
approach to learning.
Year 3-6 Sport
The sports
program for primary students is made up of Friday afternoon sport and at
least one other Physical Education lesson during the week. All students
are required to wear their sports uniform on Fridays.
A number of
students are selected to represent Balgowlah North Public School in an
interschool sports competition known as PSSA (Primary
Schools Sports Association) on Friday afternoons. Sports which Balgowlah
North Public School enters for the PSSA competition are:

Friday afternoon to compete against other schools in this competition.

which encourage the development of skills and sportsmanship. We also
have trained professionals visit the school at various times of the year
to work with students in a variety of sports e.g. Cricket, Tae Kwon Do,
Ultimate Frisbee.
