Japanese Program

The learning of another language and culture benefits all students, both as individuals and in the broader society. It:

• enriches the student intellectually, educationally and culturally
• contributes to social cohesiveness through better communication and understanding

The aims of our Japanese program are to:

1.  inspire interest in and respect for other cultures
2.  develop a genuine understanding of the Japanese culture
3.  introduce students to the Japanese language as a means of accessing other peoples ideas and ways of thinking.

• Students gain a deeper insight into the culture of people from Japan, as well as the opportunity to reflect on their own values and beliefs.
• In learning another language, students learn to experiment with different ways of thinking, expressing themselves and problem-solving.
• Literacy skills improve through comparing the features of one language with those of another.
