The Band program at Balgowlah North Public School is
very comprehensive and enjoys a strong reputation. Currently we
have three bands which cater for a range of musical abilities – training
band, concert band 2 and concert band 1. Students are able to join the band
program from the beginning of Year 3. We cater for a wide
range of instruments such as flute,
clarinet, saxophone, baritone, trumpets, trombone, bass guitar, and percussion.
The bands offer members a wealth of performance
opportunities and collegial musical experience.
Under the guidance of our dedicated Band Director, Jock Heath and
conductor Ben Dickson our bands perform in a variety of competitions and
at a range of venues
throughout the year. Professional musicians are invited to the school to
share their expertise with the students and visits to and by other
school bands are enjoyed by all students. We begin
each year with a two day Band Camp which is enjoyed by all band members.
A highlight of our school is the "Battle of the Bands" which is held in
September each year. This competition draws bands from all through the
lower Northern Beaches area and is growing in popularity and level of
professionalism each
year.
A parent Band Committee in collaboration with staff
representatives, ensures the band program
is run efficiently and effectively. Monthly meetings
are held and everyone is welcome to attend.
